I've just watched the first two episodes of Tokyo Ghoul. I will definitely keep up with this series for the summer - I am already bought into the journey that Kaneki will undertake.
The second episode did a lot to clear up the questions and concerns I had after the first one... Such as what were those tentacle like things? Who was that guy in the mask at the beginning of the first ep? What really happened to Rize?
The music choices are good, and I really liked the sound mixing in that scene where Kaneki is standing in the center of Tokyo looking at people - women, men, girls, boys, but also meat, meat, meat...
The characters are beginning to take shape, the friendship between Hide and Kaneki is well established, and thank goodness a tragedy avoided. I have to wonder how much of what occurred in the garage Hide saw and heard - was he really unconscious the whole time?
I really liked the shift in the art which signalled Kaneki being controlled by his emotions - first rage, then hunger. It also makes sense that Rize appears as a kind of ghost figure to him. The reason he has these feelings are because he has her organs.
I'm eagerly awaiting next week's episode, and that is saying something from someone who normally is not a fan of horror...
