So last weekend I was in Paris, and during a quiet moment to myself, when I had access to WiFi, I thought I'd continue to catch up with HunterxHunter. So I logged into the Crunchyroll app...
Only to find that it had changed utterly. No HunterxHunter, no Bleach, and Daiya no A was only on episode 36... I suddenly realised the reason for this was because I was in a different country, and therefore different streaming rights. I went looking to see if there were any anime on my want to watch list I couldn't get back home and I stumbled upon Shonen Hollywood and Barakamon. I decided to watch the first one, and I'm glad I did - I'm afraid that if I had watched two full episodes of Barakamon I'd feel "en manque" now that I'm back home and can't watch the rest.
Shonen Hollywood on the other hand was a simple, pretty boys make an effort to get somewhere premise. I feel like it'll go where we expect the story to go - they get rewarded for their effort after we get to know them better. I didn't feel as engaged with the characters as I did with the girls in Wake Up, Girls! though, and the overall feel of this anime was much join the dots than that enjoyable and thoughtful look at the idol industry. And what is the story with that manager (in the yellow tracksuit bottoms above?) There is no way he looks 40.
I did like the animation in the ED though... Those felt dolls were quite cute.
